Wendy Williams’ brother, Tommy Williams, has stepped forward to defend his sister, insisting she is in excellent health despite her ongoing legal battle over guardianship.

In a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, Tommy said Wendy, 60, is doing well both mentally and physically. He also called for her release from the New York assisted living facility where she has been staying since 2022.

“Let her out,” he said, reinforcing his belief that she does not need court-ordered supervision.

Guardianship Controversy and Recent Public Plea

Williams, the former host of The Wendy Williams Show, has been under guardianship since 2022. In 2024, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a condition that can affect personality and decision-making abilities.

In a January interview with The Breakfast Club, Williams compared her living situation to being in a “prison.” She also denied claims that she was impaired, stating she was fully capable of managing her own affairs.

Her legal battle escalated in February when she fired her court-appointed attorney and filed to remove her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.

Earlier this week, Williams made headlines after allegedly throwing a handwritten note out of her window, begging for help. The incident prompted police to conduct a wellness check. She was then taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Wendy Williams Passes Mental Capacity Test

Following the hospital visit, Williams called into Good Day New York, where she stated she passed her mental evaluation “with flying colors.”

Two days later, she was seen smiling while out in New York City, dining at Tucci, a restaurant owned by Max Tucci. It marked her first public appearance since February when she traveled to Florida for her father’s birthday.

Williams has also made recent trips to Florida for her son Kevin Hunter Jr.’s college graduation in December 2024.

Guardian’s Attorney Pushes Back Against Claims

While Williams and her brother insist she is doing well, her court-appointed guardian’s attorney has challenged their claims. In a letter to TMZ, the lawyer stated that Williams is receiving “excellent medical care” and has access to “a spa, workout room, excellent food, a dining room, and outside terraces.”

The statement also denied accusations that Williams is being kept from her family, asserting that she is free to see and speak to them whenever she wishes.

Despite this, Williams’ family and supporters continue to push for her release, arguing that she should be able to regain control of her life.

For now, Williams remains in the facility as her legal battle over guardianship continues.
