Stella Li, executive vice president of China’s top electric vehicle maker BYD, has proposed a partnership with Tesla to challenge internal combustion engine cars. Speaking at a London showroom, Li stressed that uniting against ICE vehicles could hasten the global shift to electric mobility, leveraging China’s EV advancements.

Stella Li, EVPO of BYD, the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in China, has said that BYD is open to collaborating with Tesla in the fight against gas-powered vehicles.

The remarks from the executive came at a time when BYD and Tesla are vying for dominance in the worldwide electric vehicle market. Both firms are actively pursuing innovation in order to meet consumer demand.

At a BYD showroom in London, Li told the Financial Times that BYD and Tesla would “work together” to fight internal combustion engine automobiles. “Our common enemy is the internal combustion engine car. We need to work together… to make the industry change,” she said.

Despite growing trade tensions between the US and Europe, she said that Beijing is “more open” to sharing technologies with international companies. Perhaps there is a great deal of misinformation because the Chinese government is more transparent, as she points out.

As an example of the industry, Li highlighted the strength of China’s EV adoption. Despite what seems to be a downturn in the worldwide EV sector, she yet managed to convey an air of confidence.

“Why are people still choosing the EV? Because it’s a better car, a smarter car… and it’s higher quality,” she said.

Per Teslarati, the joint endeavors of BYD and Tesla to integrate a specialized autonomous driving system into their Chinese-made automobiles serve as an example of their ambitions to break into the electric vehicle market. In China, BYD unveiled its “God’s Eye” autonomous driving system last month and said that it will be available for free on the majority of its cars.

In contrast, Tesla has targeted the Chinese market with its initial vision-based Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities. In China, early feedback on Tesla’s FSD features has been overwhelmingly positive, with many users complimenting the system’s smooth navigation of public roadways.
