The Kardashian-Jenner clan has enjoyed more than its fair share of success, with an empire worth nearly $3 billion combined, almost two dozen lifestyle brands between them, and stable reality shows that have kept them on television for more than 17 years. However, cracks have reportedly started to show in recent months.
In Touch Magazine reported that some of their business ventures have faced challenges and, amid shifts in public perception, rumors are rife that the once-ubiquitous family is presently facing an identity crisis. A recent headline even suggested they are in their “flop” era after their popularity allegedly suffered.
Reports claimed Kim Kardashian, Kourtney, Khloe, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall lost millions of Instagram followers when The Kardashians Season 5 aired on Hulu. One critic described the reality show as “boring AF,” while another complained the series is now “clearly made to plug their brands and businesses.”
Kylie’s makeup brand, Kylie Cosmetics, is said to be making half of what it used to, and the world’s youngest self-made billionaire is currently worth an estimated $710 million. In early 2024, Kim, who leads her brood in net worth at $1.7 billion, saw a subdued launch for her SKKN by Kim Makeup line three years after she shut down KKW Fragrance and KKW Beauty brands.
In December, Kim celebrated the opening of her Skins flagship in NYC precisely one year after the shapewear and lingerie brand was valued at $4 billion. However, everyone was shocked when Kim stepped down as co-managing partner of the private equity firm SKKY Partners, which she co-founded in 2022, and took a less senior role.

The news came just months after federal securities filings revealed SKKY was struggling to meet a $1 billion fundraising goal to acquire consumer businesses. An unnamed source even told The U.S. Sun in January that Kim had either “underperformed” or “her value was overestimated” and called it a “tough wake-up call” for the star.
“There was a time when each episode [of a Kardashian reality show] would make headlines around the world. Those are gone,” brand and culture expert Nick Ede told The U.S. Sun.
Kris Jenner teased “chaos” when The Kardashians Season 6 debuts on February 6. However, Nick claimed it would be enough to help them connect with a new generation unless the family goes back to basics and starts focusing on what their audiences want.
“The juicy drama with Kim’s ex-husband, Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori, and Kylie’s relationship with Timothee Chalamet. Fans want to see if they can go back to being the family we feel in love with,” Nick went on.
