Hollywood is abuzz with rumors that acting legends Meryl Streep and Martin Short might be more than just co-stars. The speculation began after comedian Amy Schumer hinted at a possible romance during a red carpet interview with People Magazine at the SNL50 event. Schumer shared that sitting next to Martin Short was a delight, but her comments about Short possibly being “off the market” have set tongues wagging.
Schumer suggested that Short might be involved with “the greatest actor of our time,” an indirect nod towards Streep, with whom he shares the screen in “Only Murders in the Building.” This remark has reignited interest in the dynamic between these two beloved performers.
Meryl Streep and Martin Short have been spotted together at various events, adding fuel to the gossip fire. At the premiere of the fourth season of their Hulu series, they were seen holding hands at an after-party. Additionally, they sat closely together at the 2024 Emmy Awards, further stoking romance rumors.
However, representatives for Short have officially denied these speculations. They confirmed to E! News that Streep and Short are “just very good friends.” Short himself echoed this sentiment on “Club Random with Bill Maher,” clarifying that they are “very close friends” but nothing more.
Despite these denials, the public’s fascination continues, especially given Streep’s recent personal life developments. Streep, after a 45-year marriage to sculptor Don Gummer, confirmed in October 2023 that they had been separated for over six years. This news has naturally led to heightened interest in her interactions with Short.
The chemistry between Meryl Streep and Martin Short on “Only Murders in the Building” has captivated audiences, leading many to wonder if their on-screen romance might have blossomed off-screen as well. Whether or not there’s truth to these rumors, the public’s interest in Meryl Streep and Martin Short’s relationship status is unlikely to wane anytime soon.
