President Donald Trump announced plans to eliminate federal funding for schools that permit illegal protests, escalating tensions over campus unrest. The move has sparked concerns among advocates who say it challenges the First Amendment’s protection of peaceful assembly and free speech rights.

According to Reuters, in a statement released on Tuesday, President Donald Trump made a commitment to remove government funds from any and all schools that permit children to participate in what he referred to as “illegal protests.”

In a post that he published on his Truth Social page, Trump issued a fresh warning against the educational institutions in the United States.

In his letter, Trump stated that any college, school, or university that permits illegal protests will be prevented from receiving any government funding.

The President of the United States of America reaffirmed his position, indicating that anyone who incited unrest would be sentenced to imprisonment or permanently deported to the nation from whence they originated and that American students would be permanently expelled or, depending on the nature of the offense, arrested.

“NO MASKS! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he continued.

The post that Trump made does not provide any clarity around what he believes to be an “illegal protest.”

It is stated in the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America that Congress shall not pass any laws that restrict the freedom of speech or the freedom of the press, or the right of the people to peacefully assemble and petition the government for a redress of grievances, The Raw Story shares.
