10 million to settle Donald Trump’s 2021 lawsuit alleging First Amendment violations over his Twitter ban, weeks after Meta’s 25M Trump deal sparked accusations of “open-air corruption” among billionaires, court records show.
Multi-Million Dollar Settlement in Trump-X Lawsuit
One of the most wealthy individuals in the world has agreed to pay the President millions of dollars in order to settle a lawsuit that was filed against his social media site, X.
In the arrangement with those who had sued the company and its previous CEO, Elon Musk’s company agreed to pay approximately ten million dollars, according to a report that was published in the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday evening.
Lawsuit Stemmed from Censorship Allegations and First Amendment Claims
In July 2021, he filed a lawsuit against Twitter, alleging that the platform engaged in censorship and violated his rights under the First Amendment. The account was permanently suspended by Twitter in January of that year due to concerns that he could further instigate violence in the aftermath of the Capitol rebellion.
According to, Twitter was censoring conservative viewpoints at the time, and he asked that the platform stop shadow-banning, silencing, and blacklisting people during that time.
Settlement Reached Despite Initial Case Dismissal
A federal judge ruled the following year that Twitter is a private firm and hence not bound by the First Amendment, and as a result, the judge dismissed the case at that time.
Despite this, the legal team decided to continue their pursuit of the lawsuit, which ultimately resulted in the settlement. It was not immediately clear what the specifics of the transaction were.
Similar Meta Settlement Fuels Bribery and Corruption Concerns
Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, the parent company of Facebook, reached a settlement with the president for $25 million, which was a few days prior to the settlement reached by X, The Raw Story shares.
As a result of the settlement, certain individuals have expressed their concern that the President and the billionaire class are engaging in “open-air corruption” and “bribery.”
