Apple announced its redesigned MacBook Air with the M4 chip, a new Sky Blue color, and a lower $999 starting price on Wednesday. The company simultaneously discontinued M2 and M3 models, sparking mixed reactions.

An updated camera, the M4 chip, and a new “Sky Blue” color option are among the changes made to the 13-and 15-inch MacBook Air models that Apple unveiled today, MacRumors reports.

The new “Sky Blue” blue finish is the fourth in the series, following Silver, Midnight, and Starlight. A “beautiful, metallic light blue that creates a dynamic gradient when light reflects off of its surface” is how Apple characterizes it. The color Space Gray is out of stock. A MagSafe charge cable that matches the model is included with every MacBook Air.

With the M4 chip, you may enjoy a 10-core CPU, a GPU with up to 10 cores, and 32 GB of unified memory. The new MacBook Air, according to Apple, is up to twice as quick as the M1 model. Jobs processed by the Neural Engine can be completed three times quicker. Debuting in last year’s iPad Pro, the M4 CPU boasted single-core and multi-core performance that was roughly 20% quicker than the M3 chip.

Thanks to an updated display engine, the MacBook Air can now accommodate two external 6K screens alongside its internal display.

With the new 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, users can stay in the center of video chats even when they walk about. Desk View, which shows the user’s desk from above, is likewise compatible with this feature.

With the new price cut, the ‌MacBook Air‌ starts at $999. Prices begin at $899 for education. You may pre-order it now, and it will be available for purchase on March 12th.

Apple has removed the M2 and M3 versions from its online stores after releasing new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models with M4 CPUs. Both types were sold by Apple as new products until today.

In July 2022, Apple released the ‌M2‌ ‌MacBook Air‌, and in March 2024, the M3 ‌MacBook Air‌was released. Hopefully, Apple’s online Refurbished store will have both laptops on sale for the foreseeable future.
