After a tense three-week trial, A$AP Rocky was acquitted on Tuesday of two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm in a 2021 incident involving his former friend and bandmate, A$AP Relli. The jury in Los Angeles reached this verdict following just five hours of deliberation, a swift conclusion to a case that could have seen Rocky face up to 24 years in prison.
A Victory for Rocky and Rihanna
The “F–kin’ Problems” rapper, legally known as Rakim Athelaston Mayers, was visibly relieved when the jury announced the not guilty verdict. His attorney, Joe Tacopina, expressed profound gratitude for the jury’s decision, stating that Rocky and Rihanna can now move forward with their lives, focusing on their family which includes their two young children. Rocky’s partner, Rihanna, attended several court sessions, providing unwavering support throughout the trial.
    Details of the Trial
The case stemmed from an altercation in 2021 where A$AP Relli, whose real name is Terell Ephron, claimed Rocky shot at him with a firearm. Relli testified that Rocky pointed a gun at his stomach and head, although he was not seriously injured, only sustaining scrapes on his knuckles. However, Rocky maintained his innocence, refusing a plea deal and opting not to testify. His defense argued that the gun in question was a starter pistol that only shot blanks, and that jealousy might have motivated the accusations.
    The Aftermath and Reactions
Following the verdict, Rocky thanked the jurors for what he described as “saving my life.” Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman acknowledged the verdict, emphasizing the office’s commitment to justice despite the outcome. Rihanna echoed the relief on social media, crediting divine intervention for the favorable result.
    Implications for Rocky and Rihanna
This legal victory allows A$AP Rocky and Rihanna to shift their focus back to their family and careers. The couple, who have been dating since 2019, have navigated this ordeal together, showcasing the strength of their partnership. For Rocky, this clears a significant legal hurdle, allowing him to continue his music and fashion ventures without the shadow of this case looming over him.
