Wendy’s has launched an AI drive-thru pilot near its Ohio headquarters, resulting in significant customer disapproval. Reports indicate that the AI chatbot frequently interrupts orders and fails to process modifications. Despite mixed reviews, company leaders assert that system refinements are underway to resolve current technical issues amid growing customer frustration.

The use of AI in Wendy’s drive-thrus is a major innovation in the fast food chain’s technology. As of right now though, things are not going as smoothly as was hoped for.

Locations close to the Ohio headquarters have been participating in the company’s artificial intelligence drive-thru ordering test. In a subreddit, a Wendy’s patron ripped the new system to pieces.

Dear Wendy’s, PLEASE get rid of AI ordering at the drive thru

“I live near HQ so my local Wendy’s location is the flagship store, right across from corporate headquarters,” they remarked. “A few months ago they decided it would be a good idea to no longer have a human take your order and have an AI chatbot do it. It. Is. Horrible.”

Every time the consumer started to speak, the system abruptly stopped them, forcing them to repeat themselves three times. The bot will not understand if you specify “no pickle” when ordering a sandwich.

According to what they claimed, the experience was so terrible that they have contemplated going to the corporate headquarters and simply expressing how terrible it is.

Per Southern Living, another Wendy’s patron, the bot also refused to let them order some Baconator items. Another individual mentioned that their stammer renders AI completely useless to them.

A few individuals did express their approval of the new technology and stated that the ordering process ran without a hitch. In principle, the artificial intelligence is expected to get better over time.

Wendy’s “really liked” the outcome of the trial test, which included the technology at roughly 100 restaurants countrywide, and expects to deploy the drive-thru bots at up to 600 locations worldwide, according to USA Today.

There is a great deal of confidence, according to CEO Kirk Tanner, who stated this during a recent earnings call. In addition, he mentioned that one of the things that he enjoys about it is the fact that it keeps becoming better.
